Carr and Lukens family papers

Abstract

The Carr and Lukens families were prominent figures in Rock Island County in the 19th and 20th centuries, and they were among the first families to settle in the area. The Carr and Lukens family papers are arranged into seven series: Correspondence, 1837-1924 and undated; Writings and drawings, 1850-1918; Financial records, 1829-1946 (bulk 1837-1869); Genealogical data, 1905-1968 and undated; Printed material, 1805-1981; Photographs, circa 1860s-1970 and undated; and Realia.

Collection on Olof Z. Cervin

Abstract Olof Zakarias Cervin graduated from Augustana College in 1887 and went on to study architecture at Columbia University. After working as an architect in various cities, Olof returned to Rock Island and established his own architecture firm on 1 April 1896. Cervin designed several buildings in Rock Island, Moline, and East Moline, Illinois, including schools, churches, and factories. Abstract The Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railroad, commonly known as the "Rock Island Line," was chartered in 1847. When the charter was amended to reflect the line's expansion to Chicago in 1851, the railroad was named the Chicago and Rock Island. The railroad received its most recent name, the Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railroad, after a merger with the Mississippi and Missouri Railroad in 1866. Class of 1916 notebook

Abstract

The Class of 1916 was an Augustana College club founded in 1912 by members of the freshman class of the Collegiate Department. Membership was open to any student “properly enrolled in the said class and not affiliated with any other class.” The Class of 1916 notebook, 1912-1916, contains evidence of the inner workings of the organization, including its constitution, minutes, and membership.

Helen S. Collins scrapbook

Abstract Helen Collins was born in 1901 in the town of Wakefield, Nebraska. Her father, Henry Collins, was a prominent businessman in the area; her mother, Sophia Collins, was the daughter of the Salem Lutheran Church's founder. Helen was one of seven children her father hoped would all attend college; Helen and her sister Elsie selected Augustana. Robert Cooper collection on Theodore Celms

Abstract

Theodore Celms, Augustana College professor from 1949 to 1963 and 1967 to 1973, was one of the many scholars evacuated from Eastern Europe during World War II. The Robert Cooper collection on Theodore Celms consists of photocopies of several short biographical articles on Dr. Celms, including announcements about his death, and photocopies of Cooper's class notes from Celms's 1961 Philosophy of Culture course.
